CuraCare exists to help families find trustworthy senior care without being sold to. This page documents how we gather data, how we rank results, and the commitments we make to the families who rely on us.
1. Data Sources
Every facility profile on CuraCare is built from public, verifiable sources. We do not accept payment to list, remove, or alter facility information.
- CMS Provider Data (primary): All 14,698 facilities are sourced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services public skilled-nursing provider dataset. CMS provides licensing, bed counts, ownership, and survey-based quality ratings.
- Google Places (photos & location verification): Facility photos, addresses, and public review aggregates come from Google's Places API where an authoritative match exists.
- User-submitted reviews (when available): Families who have toured or lived at a facility can submit reviews directly. All reviews are tied to a verified account and labeled with the reviewer type (family member, resident, visitor).
- Operator-reported data (opt-in): Facility operators can claim their listing to provide updated pricing, amenities, and availability. Operator-reported fields are labeled as such; we never obscure the distinction between estimated and operator- reported values.
2. Ranking Methodology
When you search for care, results are ranked by a transparent set of signals. No operator can pay to rank higher.
- CMS/state quality rating: The most load-bearing signal. CMS star ratings reflect inspections, staffing, and quality measures.
- Review recency & volume: Facilities with a meaningful number of recent reviews are surfaced above those with few or dated reviews.
- Profile completeness: Facilities with photos, descriptions, and current availability data rank above incomplete profiles because families need that information to decide.
- Bed availability: When you filter for available facilities, those with open beds appear first.
- Proximity to your search location: When a ZIP or city is provided, closer facilities are preferred.
We publish the formula, and we will publish any changes to it. When the algorithm changes materially, this page will record the change and the date.
3. Pricing Data
Pricing on CuraCare is shown as a monthly range and is one of three types, always labeled:
- Operator-reported: Submitted by the facility through their claimed-listing dashboard. Treated as the most authoritative figure.
- Estimated (state median): For facilities that have not reported pricing directly, we apply state- and care-type-specific medians derived from industry benchmarks (Genworth Cost of Care, AHCANCAL medians, BLS regional price parities), adjusted for metro area and facility capacity. These figures are clearly labeled as estimates and are refreshed annually.
- Third-party: Pricing sourced from public filings or verified third-party databases where applicable.
Monthly estimates are not a contract. Always confirm pricing directly with the facility before making a decision.
4. Refresh Cadence
- CMS provider data: Refreshed monthly as CMS publishes updates.
- Google Places photos and reviews: Refreshed quarterly.
- Pricing reference data: Refreshed annually, with spot updates if material regional shifts occur.
- Operator-reported data: Updated whenever a verified operator makes changes; displayed with the last-updated date.
5. Our Commitments
- No pay-to-play ranking. Operators cannot pay for higher placement. Sponsored slots, if introduced in the future, will be clearly labeled and isolated from organic rankings.
- No data sold. We do not sell search queries, contact information, or browsing history. See our Privacy Policy.
- No spam calls. Submitting a tour request sends your information only to the specific facility you selected, and only with your consent.
- Accessibility commitment. We target WCAG 2.1 AA conformance. See our Accessibility Statement.
6. Corrections & Disputes
If a facility profile contains an error, or you are an operator disputing a rating or review, write to corrections@curacare.us. We respond within five business days. Corrections that require data-source updates (e.g., CMS) may take longer; we will tell you when that is the case.
7. Conflicts of Interest
CuraCare's revenue model is subscription-based provider tools and premium planning features for families. We do not take lead- generation fees or referral commissions from facilities in exchange for placement in search results. If this ever changes, it will be disclosed here and on the pricing page before taking effect.
